Hippie Chick Half Marathon & Quarter Marathon - SOLD OUTHello to all of you Hippie Chicks!I hope your training for the Hippie Chick Half Marathon is underway. Remember that this event is all about you and celebrating the great women in your life. Remember the reason you signed up for this race is to push yourself through these tough winter months with a goal and mindset of getting and staying fit both mentally and physically. Keep up the good work on your training and make sure you make time for yourself each day. The first step out the door is always the hardest so without giving it too much thought put your feet in your running or walking shoes and GO! If you are looking for training schedule we have created one just for The Hippie Chick Half Marathon. You are welcome to use this plan but please know that life happens and not every one can run or walk the exact schedule. You may need to take an additional day of rest or maybe you are a veteran half marathoner and need to add a day. Use this as a guide and remember to have fun! Training Schedule:
Free Group Runs for Hippie Chicks:We are hosting two long training runs for the Hippie Chicks at Portland Running Company on Grand Avenue (www.portlandrunningcompany.com for map and directions). We will meet at 8am on both of the below Saturday's and run together on the waterfront downtown. Please mark your calendar and come join us for these group runs. It is so fun to meet the other women and make some new friends and training partners along the way.

Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, Friends...The Hippie Chick Half Marathon & Quarter Marathon is an all women's event that celebrates women. This event is held on Mother's Day weekend just for that reason, and we want to help make it all about you! We have noticed the undeniable bond of mothers and daughters and sisters and friends and we want to highlight the special relationships us girls have with one another. We see women of all ages, women that have been inspired by other women, women that never thought they could accomplish the goal of a quarter or half marathon, and veteran women still carrying the passion of running and walking. We get so excited to see all of you on race day and we love the energy you bring. Friends, moms, sisters, daughters - we get to see it all. Sometimes we get to see two and three generations of women. How cool is that? We women make the world go 'round with love and compassion and selflessness. This passion is the reason we chose the Raphael House of Portland as one of our charities. The Raphael House is a women's shelter that helps women and children in need. What a perfect fit! Consider making a donation at packet pick up, at the race, or online. We women can do anything we set our minds to, so look around at all of the wonderful women in this event come race day and know that each women has some awesome story about motherhood, sisterhood, or friendship. Let's celebrate the women in this race and embrace the many reasons why they chose to take on this challenge. What to expect at Hippie ChickAt packet pick up you will receive your Brooks Technical Running tee shirt, race number and timing chip. You must wear your timing chip on your shoe in order to be scored and timed. Your timing chip is disposable so you may recycle it or keep it as a souvenir. This year Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training has donated purple reusable bags for us to use as our goodie bags. Please reuse this bag as your clothes check bag at the race by writing your race number on the outside of the bag in black marker. We will stow this bag for you while you are on the course. Thank you for reusing this bag when you go shopping or anytime you would use a plastic bag. Sweatshirts will be available for pick up at packet pick up both Friday at Portland Running Company and Saturday at the race beginning at 7am. The sweatshirts are cozy and soft and very cute! If you would like to buy additional pancake breakfast vouchers for family members, please pay for them at packet pick up. Pancake breakfasts are $5 and will not be for sale at the race. All breakfasts must be prepaid. After you participate in the Hippie Chick Half or Quarter Marathon you will receive a cool finisher necklace by Moxie Medal. All finisher in both events will receive a finisher necklace. You will also receive a complimentary MIMOSA after the race and a complimentary pancake breakfast. Please stay and celebrate your accomplishment with the other amazing women that participated. Stay and listen to live music and enjoy the awards ceremony – the top 3 women in each age category will receive a ribbon and the top women in each age category will receive a hand-painted flower pot created by yours truly ☺ Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 4 is the final day to change events. We are creating your race number and preparing your packet. Your race number is based on the race you enter so please make the change no later than 5pm tomorrow, May 4. Champoeg State Park charges a day use fee to enter the park. Each car will be charged $5 so please have your cash ready so we can keep a steady flow of traffic moving into the park. HIPPIE CHICKS ARE GOING GREEN! Please consider carpooling as the park has limited parking. We want to make as little of an impact on the park as possible so please carpool and recycle as these are two easy things we can do to limit our impact on the environment on race day. Thank you for arriving early and following the direction of the parking volunteers. Please do not stop and talk to the parking volunteers as they need to keep traffic moving. We will answer all of your questions once you park and make your way to the shelter. The bathrooms at the park will not be available for use so we will have porta potties situated nearby. You may change in the bathrooms however the toilets are out of order. Please remember while you are running or walking to be considerate of your fellow Hippie Chicks. This race is mostly on bike path, which becomes very narrow at times and loops twice around so you will be moving past people and having people pass you several times. Please stay to the right side and call out when you approach someone in front of you. This helps both the faster and the slower runner/walker. We all want to be safe and courteous and I want to thank you in advance for using your best etiquette on the course. It is Mother’s Day Weekend and we are all out celebrating all of the wonderment of being a mom, sister, daughter or friend. Thank you for cheering each other on throughout the event. Please remember that we cannot allow a few things at Hippie Chick. We cannot allow strollers or doggies. Our children must be attended to at all times. We cannot allow another person to run under our registered number and we cannot forget that we are an amazing group of women gathered together to do amazing things! See you at Hippie Chick! AwardsAwards will be given to the overall winners in the Half Marathon and the Quarter Marathon. Hand-made flower pots (made by Paula & family) will be presented to the top person in each age category for both events. Ribbons will be awarded to the top 3 in each age category for both events.
Hippie Chick Race CourseThe Hippie Chick Course is rolling but mostly flat, The course runs 98% inside of Champoeg State Park on bike path and road. The course is a two-loop course with great places for spectators to see their favorite runners and walkers. There are porta potties on the course placed approximately every 2 miles. We will have water and HEED sports drink on the course. Clif Bloks will also be placed on the course at the main aid station that you will pass twice on each loop. Don't forget to stop for your chocolate along the way! General InfoThe Hippie Chick Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon will be held on Saturday, May 08, 2010. Race start is 9:00am at Champoeg State Park. The Hippie Chick Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon is limited to 900 participants. BEFORE you sign up know that we do not offer refunds or transfers in this event. You may not give your number to another runner. Entries not used will be given to sponsors and charities. A portion of our proceeds will go to The Raphael House of Portland so know that your money is well spent. The Hippie Chick Half Marathon Participants will receive a Brooks Technical Hippie Chick running Tee and finisher's medal or necklace. This year we are serving hot pancakes at the finish area along with a cool Jamba Juice to help you replenish your body. Mimosa's will be served at the finish as well, don't forget it is Mother's Day Weekend, and we want you to feel special! The Hippie Kid Fun Run will be held before the race start and is a one mile untimed race. BJ the Clown will be on-site to entertain the kids as always. Bring your fun loving self and as many friends and family as you can as this is a family event!
